2 times Gold for France

It has been an amazing day in Jyske Bank Boxen with fantastic vaulting at the world championships. The finals for the individual vaulters were on for both the women and men. And boy, did they deliver. 35 ladies and 16 men was all dressed up to rock the arena with their beautiful and creative freestyles.

The new queen of vaulting
We knew she was good, coming to Herning as the world’s number 1. Manon Moutinho from France. Through three fantastic rounds she kept her cool and delivered on the highest level possible earning her a very well-deserved gold medal.
“I haven’t realised yet, that I won! It is amazing! Today I had to work a bit more in the arena, because my horse was a bit more nervous. But I’m so happy with her, she did a great job. And I’m so happy with all my rounds!” the gold medalist said after her win with her horse Saitiri and the overall score of 8.963.

Julia Wagner from Germany took the silver medal with 8.529 at her first international championship.
“I can’t believe it. It’s amazing. It was a little shaky today, and I had a bit of luck. But it has been a really good competition for me, so I’m happy”.

Bronze for the host nation
For the Danes in Boxen it was a fantastic experience watching the Danish vaulter Sheena Bendixen win the bronze medal in her final competition as a vaulter and the tears would not stop flowing.
“My beginning was not so good, but I fought with everything I had and came back. I’m so proud and so happy”.

WAUW Lambert
In the men’s competition we witnessed artistry at work. The reigning world champion, Lambert Leclezio, went into the arena as the last vaulter knowing he had the gold in sight. Jannik Heiland from Germany had delivered a fantastic new freestyle taking the second place in the competition with 9.100. And Lamberts countryman, Quentin Jabet, did a 9.032 in his freestyle, putting all the pressure on the sympathetic Frenchman running into the arena. But Lambert showed no signs of pressure in his freestyle with his horse Estado working beautifully underneath him.
“The horse was so good and has been good in all the rounds. So I was more confident going into the last round with less stress. I took my time and just enjoyed it. We have worked so hard, and I’m very happy. It was amazing”, Lambert said scoring an amazing 9.567 giving him a total score of 9.399.

Silver for France and Bronze for Germany
Quentin Jabet looks very much like the new heir to the throne of vaulting with three lovely rounds at this championship.
“I’m here in Herning with a whole new team and this was our first championship together, and today we just worked so well together, so I’m so, so happy with our performance, and happy about the silver medal!”, a very happy Quentin said after scoring a total of 8.837.

For Jannik Heiland everything was open going into the final round with five of the male vaulters having a score of 8.5 with them from the first two rounds. But he showed us a stunning freestyle with an exciting theme getting an overall score of 8.833.
“My round today went very well. I wasn’t nervous going in. I really like my theme and the music, so I just wanted to enjoy it, on my once in a lifetime horse, Dark Beluga. It’s been fantastic”, the proud bronze medalist concluded.

Beautiful first round of Pas de Deux

Lights, music, action. The Pas de Deux in vaulting had their first round at the World Championships in Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. And we sang along to Grease, was dazzled by the black and white graphics and held our breath through the beautiful routines.
Seven pairs did their absolute best to show us new moves and choreographies. And then we had the Highlight at the end.

Highlight carried through
Germanys Justin van Gerven and Chiara Congia came in last, but finished first, after a routine with lots and lots of stunning moves, giving them a final score of 8.863. But their moves was not the only Highlight.
“We’re pretty happy with our round. It’s our first competition with our horse, Highlight, this season. And she did such a good job in the arena”, Justin said after the round, giving praise to their horse lunged by Alexandra Knauf.

 Chiara continued:
“It was amazing. This arena, this audience. And then Highlight doing such a great job. We’re really happy”.

Germany second and Italy third
It was a great first round for Germany, with their Pad de Deux finishing as number one and two. Even though the music told us, there was no sunshine, Diana Harwardt and Peter Künne, brought the sun out with their beautifully choreographed routine on the horse Sir Laulau lunged by Henrik Falk, and they scored 8.625.

For Rebecca Greggio and Davide Zanella from Italy, who came in third with 8.198. They invited us in to the “House of Gucci”, with a routine of high difficulty, but very well carried out.

Host country Denmark was also represented in the Pas de Deux by Freja Linde and Maria Thinggaard. They came in fifth and are ready to eliminate the minute mistakes from today, when we have the final in the Pas de Deux on Wednesday.

The competition is on!

It was game on from the very first minute of today’s competition for the squads competing for medals in the World Championship in Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. The very first team in the arena in the first round of compulsories was the team from France, who are one of the favorites to take a medal with them home from Denmark and maybe reclaim the world championship they won back in 2016 in Le Mans.

And they started out strong with an overall score of 8.086 after a very nice round of compulsories, leaving no doubt, that they are here to win.
“It’s always a bit hard to be the first team to open the competition. But I think we did a good job, overall, no major mistakes and the score is good, and the horse was calm in the arena. It gives confidence going into the freestyle on Monday”, team member Lambert Leclezio said after the team’s performance in the grand setting in Boxen.

Germany is very close
Team Germany is eager to hold on to their gold medal for another year and did a really good job, with lunger Patrick Looser being on a bit of work with the team horse, Calidor 10, who was not as excited about the venue as the vaulters.
There was a little bit of insecurity in some of the exercises, but the team still managed to give France a run for their money scoring just a little shy of 8 in total with an overall score of 7.940.
“We did quite good, even though we had a couple of exercises, we would usually do better. But this was a good start, we are happy with the horse and look forward to the freestyle”, said German team member Justin van Gerven.

Today’s battle for the 3rd place
There is a real battle going on for the 3rd place, because three nations are close. At the moment we have Switzerland in the 3rd place with 7.659. But right behind them is Austria with 7.419 and the team from Denmark with 7.329.

Final on Monday
In this championship the Squads only have two rounds to prove their worth to the judges with the second round – the freestyle – on Monday. And the medals are still up for grabs. Austria has had a tough season with a lot of injuries but will do everything they can to move into the top three. And the host country Denmark has been doing a really good job in freestyle in this season, so we are in for an exciting day of finals on Monday.

Vaulting starts

“This is exactly the kind of scene, you want, when you want to show vaulting to the world”. Former vaulting world champion, Joanne Eccles, are excited about the vaulting-venue in Jyske Bank Boxen, where the championship-titles either will find a new home or stay where they are over the next five days of competition at the ECCO FEI World Championships. The spectators will be sitting like in an amphitheatre looking down on the arena from three sides.

“This is not just an arena. This is a stage. And it’s brilliant”, Joanne Eccles says.

A show-like feeling
American vaulter, Daniel Janes, agrees with Joanne and is looking very much forward to his first run into the arena tomorrow, in the individual competition for men at 17.30 CET.
“I am really excited about the venue. Even though it is grand, the organisers still managed to create an intimate feeling, when you are in the arena”, he says. “And I really like the lighting, which gives the competition sort of a show-feeling and really puts the sport right in the spotlight”.

Even though the vaulters are used to big championships, it has been a while since they have competed in a setting like the one in Jyske Bank Boxen, and they are all looking forward to the first day of competition.

The puzzle is complete
Even though two horses did not pass horse inspection, all the vaulters will be on the starting lists in the next days. Columbian vaulters Juan Marin Clavijo and Estiven Palacio Hernandes will be competing on a French horse and a Dutch horse. While Belgian female competitor, Lauren Venlerberghe, will be competing on a Danish horse.
It is a special thing for the vaulting world, that you can have the opportunity to borrow a horse from another nation, than your own. And it says a lot about the sport, that it is possible to help each other out, if the vaulters find themselves without a horse.

Fantastic sport in sight
Tomorrow will be the first day of competition for the individuals and squads. And on Sunday the Pas de Deux will have their first day in the arena. Monday is the grand finale for the individuals and the squads before we head into the Nations Cup on Wednesday and the Pas de Deux finals.

Herning2022 focuses on horse health in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim

Boehringer Ingelheim, a global pharmaceutical company and the world’s largest equine medicine company, has joined forces with Herning2022 to promote equine health and veterinary training during the ECCO FEI World Championships in Herning Denmark from 6 to 14 August 2022.

Knowledge sharing and exchange of experience are crucial for an even better understanding of the health and natural needs of sports horses. Good management around the four-legged athletes ensures happy horses – able to perform at the top of their ability in a special partnership with their athlete. If an accident happens, and an injury occurs, the correct diagnosis must be made quickly and competently, and treatment initiated.

About 1,100 horses will be at the venue during the FEI World Championship in Jumping, Dressage, Para-Dressage, and Vaulting in Herning in August. With the many competition horses also comes a large number of veterinarians and other therapists from around the world. International experts will be flown to Denmark to share their knowledge and the latest research results.

Boehringer Ingelheim, the world’s largest equine medicine company, knows that there is great interest in the knowledge and innovation the company offers horse owners, athletes, trainers, and veterinarians. It is a natural fit for the company to be clearly present at the World Championships.

Charlotte Fersløv, Business Manager Equine, Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Nordics, says: “For over 100 years, we at Boehringer Ingelheim have had a passion for horses. It is this passion that still drives us to develop new and innovative drugs for the benefit of both horses and veterinarians. We believe that knowledge and knowledge sharing is fundamental to development, and therefore we collaborate with veterinarians and organisations such as the FEI, with the aim of improving the health of horses.”

Togetherness and professional sparring

Boehringer Ingelheim is a sponsor of the Vet Lounge, where veterinarians can exchange knowledge and network with each other. Of course, there will also be an opportunity to ask questions and get updated knowledge, for example about what can be done for horses with arthritis, options for minimizing the risk of asthma in horses – and much more. Boehringer Ingelheim Vet Lounge offers a number of presentations and seminars for many professionals.

“It is very motivating for all of us who work on the Equine team to contribute knowledge about what horses need. Together with all the people and professionals around the horse, we can strengthen horse health, giving the horse and owner the most out of the time they have together. We are very much looking forward to working at the World Championship in Herning,” clarifies Charlotte Fersløv.

The Vet Lounge concept has been created in collaboration with Casper Cassøe and Jens Trabjerg, the Organiser of the World Championships in Herning.

“Together with Boehringer Ingelheim, we will offer the veterinarians a ‘Vet Lounge’ in the warm-up area connected to Stutteri Ask Stadium,” explains Casper Cassøe. In practice, the warm-up area for the main stadium will be named: Boehringer Ingelheim Warm Up. The Vet Lounge will give veterinarians an opportunity for professional contact close to the warm-up area, and a place where they can exchange experiences with colleagues from around the world. The Vet Lounge will also be used for professional talks targeted at veterinarians and at high professionals.

“We find it inspiring that Boehringer Ingelheim, a market leader in veterinary medicine for horses, has chosen to use our event for the benefit of veterinarians around the world,” says Casper Cassøe.

Three warm-up areas

The Boehringer Ingelheim Warm-Up is the largest warm-up area at the World Championship, and it is located just behind the Stutteri Ask Stadium. Here, three warm-up areas will be built, all approx. 25 x 75 meters and one of them will be covered. Adjacent to the warm-up tracks and the Vet Lounge, there will also be an equestrian cafe, where athletes and horse owners can follow the activities in the warm-up area and at the same time get refreshments.
